Auto Lensmeter and Blocking

I have used an old school (from 1945) lensmeter for the past 30 years. It finally died and decided for the sake of my staff to get an autolensmeter. However, I have never personally used one before. We do a little bit of edging (simple single vision jobs). My question is how to use this new lensmeter for blocking the lens. The manual for this lensmeter shows I check the glasses upside down from how I do now in my old manual lensmeter. Just wondering if I block the lens, does that mean I have to then turn the lens upside down when putting it in the blocker? Or it doesn’t matter because it will just be 180 degrees so it shouldn’t cause any issue when putting it blocker? I feel like I’m overthinking it. But I don’t like change. Maybe I should return this and get a manual lensmeter.

Mei edger questions

I have been an advocate for the EZFit NBL. Their new one is smaller than what we have.
Starting with accuracy. Extremely accurate, as long as you maintain it. Steps, drills, custom shapes, custom bevels. A very powerful machine. All custom edging data, including chemistrie and drill data can be stored for easy retrieval.
Pricing depends on several factors, but expect 85K – 95K. Consumables are not cheap, and i do recommend sticking with MEI consumables. We tried multiple third party options, and found that they ended up costing more in the long run.
We use the Santinelli LT-1200 for all of our traces with the z data enabled and the max data points, mainly for all of the FF that we produce. We will be adding the Briot Gravitech next year, primarily for rimless and nylor.
Throughput will depend on product mix. We average 8-10 pr/hr, as we process a good amount of steps, drillss, Lindberg/ici berlin style metal grooves and ARs on it.

The investment, IMO, is worth it if you process a lot drills, chemistrie, T and steps (mostly for suns and sport goggles) and ARs. The EZFit NBL is great for ARs w/hydros. Otherwise, the ROI may not be worth it.

Help with my Santinelli le-7070?!?

I’m currently using a Le-7070 and about 5 yrs ago I was able to cut all lenses all day. Fast forward to about 6 months ago, and I’m able to cut about 7-8 pairs and it will not trace frames after those. I mean I turn it off and let it rest for a hour or so and sometimes will get back to it but recently it’s like I gotta let it sit for hours. I’m on the edge of buying a new edger but I’d like to know what could be possibly goin on….

Reichert VRx Digital Phoroptor fault

Does anyone else use this phoroptor? We purchased one in 2018 and within a year it developed a fault: the left side would either partially insert the occluder or fully insert the split cylinder while I was performing cross cyl. No amount of button-pushing would remove either one; as far as I could tell, the only solution seemed to be to reset the unit. At first it happened maybe once a week or less. But within a few months it was occurring almost daily.

As it was under warranty, it was sent back for repair (as I’m in the UK, this meant it travelling to the US). After six weeks or so without it, it came back: same problem. They replaced it late last year.

But guess what? It’s now started doing the same thing, again on the left side. It’s infuriating; otherwise it’s a great piece of equipment and as we already have the Reichert ClearChart they obviously work together.

Has anyone else experienced any issues with this phoroptor? I’m figuring that if it’s happened with two different units this problem should be widespread.
