Charlotte Lasik Eye Surgery

Tired of wearing glasses? Had enough of the paranoia behind losing those pesky contact lenses? Or maybe, you just want the world to see your face without the frames and the hassle that comes with contact lenses.
Then maybe it’s time for you to get LASIK eye surgery!
Laser in Situ Keratomileusis or simply LASIK is one of the safest types of corneal refractive surgery.
Who can have LASIK?
Patients who are perfect for LASIK eye surgery are those who:
– 18 years old and older
– Has not used amiodarone (anti-arrhythmic) nor isotretinoin (oral anti-acne medication)
– have eyes that are in good health and without obvious ocular diseases
– has no history of an autoimmune disease
– has no history of a connective tissue disease
If you qualify with the above list then you are an ideal patient for LASIK eye surgery.
What is LASIK?
In this type of eye surgery, a microkeratome or laser is utilized to make a corneal tissue flap which is then flipped over. Then an excimer laser carves the underlying stromal bed. The flap is then put back in place. The duration of the procedure is about 5-7 minutes for each eye.
All these are done without the use of sutures!
And more importantly, improvement of vision is quickly noted! How quick? Functional vision is achieved within 4 to 12 hours! You can basically have your LASIK eye surgery one day, and then go paint the town red a few hours later.
Say goodbye to myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and those annoying contacts and glasses!

Advantages and Disadvantages
With LASIK eye surgery, the healing period and visual rehabilitation period is shorter than any type of eye surgeries (e.g. photorefractive keratectomy or PRK). Post-operative pain is only marginal with LASIK.
Unfortunately every procedure has its disadvantages and some of them are irregular flap formation and dislocation, and cornea ectasia which may lead to further worsening of myopia and astigmatism.

But on the basis of previous cases, the number of LASIK patients who attain 20/20 vision after the procedure heavily outweighs those who had complications.
LASIK is widely considered by ophthalmologists worldwide as a safe and effective surgical technique.

Post-Operation
After the procedure, it is typical that you may feel like there’s sand in your eyes when blinking. This odd feeling will be reduced as the surface of the cornea starts healing.
However, pain is an unusual feeling and if it happens please inform the physician right away.

With LASIK eye surgery you can finally be free from your corrective lenses! It is more comfortable to play contact sports, read, play with the kids, or even added confidence during picture-perfect moments. Plus, you don’t have to worry anymore if you fell asleep reading with your contacts on!
