Mykita And Maison Margiela 2019

Beginning their collaborative exchange in 2013, MYKITA and Maison Margiela connected over a shared idea of the creative process. MYKITA routinely goes beyond the confines of the eyewear industry setting new standards in design and manufacturing with artful products. Maison Margiela stands for iconoclastic fashion design. Both design houses are known for the reinterpretation of historical forms, a radical experimentation with constructions and an unconventional approach to materials.

Directional new eyewear design from MYKITA + MAISON MARGIELA is featured in a product-focused still life campaign.

MMRAW014 Raw Black (Dark Grey Solid)

Monochromatic silver spaces with geometric structures shaped by light and shadow provide the backdrop for the new crop of eyewear pieces from MYKITA + MAISON MARGIELA. Inspired by the visual codes of Maison Margiela, the readymade steel sheets provide a consistent element that brings the respective design concept of each capsule collection together.

MMESSE23 Baywatch Red (Ultra Red Solid)

The heroic, product-focused imagery uses contrast and reflections to create a modern high-end aesthetic with a futuristic twist. Sleek surfaces accentuate individual eyewear silhouettes and constructions; the consistent silver-metallic background lifts and harmonizes with the different colorways.

MMCRAFT010 Shiny Black / Sand (Gloomy Grey)

The product campaign features key pieces from all capsule collections: ESSENTIAL, RAW, ECHO and CRAFT.

ABOUT MAISON MARGIELA

Maison Margiela is a French fashion house, founded in Paris in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela. Both masculine and feminine, oftentimes fusing the two genders, the House takes a cerebral approach to deconstructing, reinventing and redefining men’s and women’s wear silhouettes. Since 2012, Maison Margiela has held the official ‘Haute Couture’ appellation from the Féderation Française de la Couture for its collection entitled ‘Artisanal’. In 2014, British couturier John Galliano was appointed as the House’s Creative Director. Margiela’s uncompromising approach to its iconoclast heritage is cast through Galliano’s poetic vision of Haute Couture, marrying conceptualism with artistry, mystery with modern elegance.

ABOUT MYKITA

MYKITA takes an independent approach to eyewear design and production, bringing together all departments under one roof to form the modern manufactory. At the MYKITA HAUS in Berlin, the team sees the product through every stage, from conception to the shop floor. The unmistakeable MYKITA aesthetic demonstrates integrity towards materials and construction, as well as the individual artistry of the craftsmen. Headed by founder and creative director Moritz Krueger,  MYKITA is committed to a course at once enterprising and authentic. In addition to 14 own shops in cities across the globe, including Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Tokyo, MYKITA is available at selected optical and fashion stores in over 80 countries.

Pantone Picks 2019’s Color Of The Year

Some people follow Fashion Week in Paris. Some in Milan. Some in London. Some in New York. These are the showcases that outline what many of us will be wearing for years to come. Whether it’s the upcoming fashion season or the closeout bins at our nearest discount store.

Cue Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada.

How many of us are granted front row seats to any of those events?

There is a fifth event that the fashion world takes just as seriously and that occurred last week when Pantone, the color standards company, unveiled their 2019 Pantone Color of the Year, “Living Coral”.

Last year you may remember, the color for 2018 was UltraViolet and we certainly saw our fair share of eyeglass frames that showcased that color. This year, it is back to nature, though you better hold your breath, since we are diving into the coral reefs that provide so much to marine life in our seas.

Pantone does not predict colors, they look into what other companies are doing, and showing, to try and coordinate and help other companies keep up with the cutting edge trends. Anyone who has looked at the colors of the new iPhone 7 knows Coral was one of the choices this fall.

Several eyewear companies have shared some snapshots of coral colors in their lineups which we would like in turn share with you. Some are a very close match, others give a hint or nod at the coral color. For those ECPs who want to be with it, it’s nice to know what the colors many a customer may be asking for soon.

Gunnar Optiks Launches Line Of Blue Light Reading Glasses

GUNNAR Optiks, the innovation leader in blue light blocking computer eyewear, launched a new collection of blue light Reading Glasses to safeguard the vision of digital device users. For more than a decade, GUNNAR has been protecting eyes with its patented lens technology to reduce digital eye strain and block blue light. The brand-new line of Reading Glasses provides a blue light solution for users requiring additional focusing power to clearly view digital screens.

“We’re proud to say we created the Reading Glasses Collection to help an entirely new segment of customers who had been asking for GUNNAR glasses that would address their specific needs,” said RJ Snyder, Marketing Manager at GUNNAR Optiks. “With heavy digital users in mind, we designed the Reading Glasses collection to provide maximum blue light protection for those who need the additional focusing power with the same high-quality, GUNNAR lens technology found in our gaming and computer glasses.”

The Blue Light Reading Glasses Collection offers consumers seven magnifying powers ranging from +1.0 to +3.0 in increments of +.25 diopters. GUNNAR’s patented lens technology is found throughout the collection and is recommended by doctors to protect against short and long-term effects of digital eye strain and exposure to artificial blue light, including headaches, dry eyes, blurry vision, eye fatigue and macular degeneration.

A recent University of Toledo Study determined blue light turns certain molecules in the human eyes into “cell killers.” The process leads to macular degeneration, an incurable eye disease affecting more than 10 million Americans. According to Dr. Ajith Karunarathne, assistant professor in the UT Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, “We are being exposed to blue light continuously, and the eye’s cornea and lens cannot block or reflect it.” Karunarathne added, “It’s no secret that blue light harms our vision by damaging the eye’s retina.”

As a solution to this ever-growing problem and as a true pioneer in the category, GUNNAR continues to usher in the standard for Blue Light Protection with its “Blue Light Protection Factor™ (BLPF).” Similar to how Sun Protection Factor (SPF) measures protection for the skin, the BLPF scale measures lens protection for the eye against artificial blue light. The higher the number, the better. Each frame style offered in the Readers Collection is available in the patented Amber lens (BLPF 65) or the almost clear, Liquet lens (BLPF 35).

According to a focus group study from The Journal of Optometry and Vision Science, “During two hours of visually demanding computer work, there was a significant increase in the following symptoms: eye-related pain and tiredness, blurred vision, itchiness, gritty eyes, photophobia, dry eyes, and tearing eyes.” Since 2008, GUNNAR has been trailblazing a path to establish themselves as the leader in computer eye protection using cutting-edge science and technology to develop eyewear that safeguards vision from the harmful effects of blue light and digital eye strain.

Each frame style offered in the Reading Glasses Collection – Vertex, Phenom, and Haus and are available now at GUNNAR.com.
