Measure Your Myopia & Improvements (Android & Windows)

Quick heads up for you here, if you’re looking for logging and measuring tools:

There’s a fair bit of community based development going on, building tools to help realize your lofty back to 20/20 vision aspirations.   This is all community work, meaning that you’re not having to pay for these things – and consequently also, there’s no guarantees or definitive support or anything besides use-at-your-own-peril.

Peril, kittehz.

Depending on how these things evolve we may eventually go for official support and development on some of these tools through endmyopia.  Since all that costs money though, and since quite many of the participants here are darling freeloaders, we don’t quite have the luxury of just throwing money at every possible cool new thing out there.

Community development to the rescue, be sure to thank them for their work and provide feedback on your experience using their applications.

Best way to find all current tools and discussion about them, is via the ‘tools’ category in our free Le Meow forum.

If you aren’t a member yet, join via this link: https://quizzes.endmyopia.org/le-quiz/

(yes that’s a quiz and yes, you want to know basics about endmyopia before joining the community)

Trial lens set recommendations?

Hello all,

I’m an ophthalmologist working in a hospital, and also part time in a practice where I do a lot of refractions using loose lenses. I’m looking into purchasing new trial lens set and trial frame, as I find the provided ones not quite satisfactory. I have been searching for reviews on different sets online, but haven’t really found any. Some requirements/wishes are:

1. a set that works well ergonomically without undue physical strain (neck, arms, eyes) reaching for/finding the lenses. Perhaps putting the case on top of a inclined tripod stand would work.
2. good visibility of markings, making it easy to locate the correct lens and reading the final result from the trial frame. Illuminated marking on the case/rack?
3. not having to re-mark the lenses after labels fall off.

I have worked with Reichert type sets, all chrome, and find it hard to easily locate the wanted lens. They are densely packed in the case.
The expensive Oculus sets I find somewhat better, but not without issues.

Could you chime in with some observations on what you have found to be good trial lens sets? Such as huge variety available with a huge range in price! Thank you in advance.

David

Louise: Optometrists, GTFO 😡

Let’s kick off this latest round of improvement reports with some fun drama from the Facebook group.

For a bit of background, for whatever reason the last couple of days has been stirring from sleeper cell optometrists in the group.  Suddenly a flurry of activity there, recommending everything from atropine drops for myopia control (literally, poison) to ortho-k (literally, thousands of dollars for not addressing causality at all).

And while your favorite darling eye guru attempts to be patient with the forum moderating and not just always ban everybody, this does eventually result in smiting of the various potion-sellers.

Not before Louise got a word in, though:

There we go.

And as always I want to point out, there are plenty of good, supportive optometrists.

Fortuitously, in this same morning, a comment confirming what I always try to remind people of:

Reality strikes.

Partially at least this suggests that endmyopia is spreading.

Like ze veed, jaaaaa.

Let’s cover some gains quickly, today.

Agnes -3.75 Down To -1.50 In A Year

One from e-mails:

Solid gains.

There’s not much to be said here other than, just as expected.

Bella: -4.75 Down To -2.00

And one from the Facebook group:

LA, city of not-myopia.

Deirdre: -5.75 Down To -3.75

I’m running out of snarky commentary.

Love these e-mails.

Diana: -4.50 Down To -3.50

More e-mails:

Reductions keep coming.

Jason: -3.25 Down To -1.25

Gotta love the inbox:

One year gains.

Kaleigh: -6.50 Down To -4.00

A drop of 2.5 diopters in a single year:

How many optometrists get results like this?

Megan: -9.00 Down To -7.50

Down from almost double digits:

Nobody speaks French!

Niels: 6th Differential Reduction

A lot of improvement here:

Paid program participant, this one.

You know, your darling eye guru is literally sigh-ing, going “oh god I need to post all these improvement reports”.

No exaggerating, it’s a chore to post these.

Because there are so many, and that’s just people who bother to write (maybe what, 1-2% of actual percipients?).  Imagine this.  The mainstream keeps saying it’s this global epidemic, everybody is going myopic, we don’t know what to do.  Meanwhile the fix exists, and it’s so simple and effective that I literally find it a chore just to post a fraction of the improvement reports that we get, every. single. day.

What a fantastic system we have, and oh how we have placed our faith in the right group to guide us with this myopia problem.

Thanks, optometry.  You’re doing such a fine job.

You didn’t think we would get through one of these without a rant, did you?

Parakh: One Diopter Reduced

Here’s a good start:

To the point.

Pedro: -4.25 Down To -3.00

Nothing crazy here, just regular reductions:

Reducing diopter dependence.

And that should do it, for this round.

Remember what modern life is.  A jungle of temptations, everybody is trying to sell you something.  And nobody is telling you, hey this isn’t great.  Sugar, carbs, screens, social media, Netflix.  You’re welcome to binge on everything, since the state is sponsored by corporations, and corporations need you to be a consumer.

Ever realize that the media refers to you literally as a consumer?

Not fellow human, not people, not individuals, not lovely darling kittehz.  CONSUMER.

With that of course comes a lot of shrugging and head shaking and ignoring of clinical science and overt biological facts from your favorite optic shop.

You wear them glasses, and you don’t question it.  Make us some money.

Or, you know.  Accept the flickering light of the not-holy and dubiously sane eye guru into your heart, and make all teh 20/20 gaiiiiiinzzzz.

Either way.

Cheers,

-Jake

Hiring an opthamologist?

Have a Opt school collogue of mine who recency reconnected with me and we started talking about our practices. We practice in different states and he’s in a pretty HCOL area compared to my practice. He then said something which didn’t exactly sound right to me.

He said he’s carving out a space in his practice where he could hire an ophthalmologist to work for him and perform surgeries and consults. He said this plan would nearly double the practice’s gross production. This sounded weird to me as I thought most surgeries were done in hospital settings. And would that really double his production numbers just by hiring an ophthalmologist? If that were the case why aren’t more optometrist doing this?

Frankly, I think he’s full of it. But I do know he has a pretty successful practice. What are your guys thoughts on this?

PlanetVA Launches Virtual Try-On Platform From Just A Selfie

PlanetVA, a private company registered in Australia and Europe with a 16-year footprint in the virtual eyewear try-on arena, announces the launch of its latest eyewear virtual try-on platform vmPRO. By just taking a selfie the app creates a 3D face model of the user in just a matter of seconds. This app leverages current augmented reality trends and the latest artificial intelligence algorithms to allow the user to view their eyewear in every possible direction simply by dragging the face. Its unique reflection simulation permits the user to experience premium lens features in real time.

The PlanetVA vmPRO app boosts the fastest and easiest user experience of any high-end virtual try-on available today. It also allows the user to easily change and try-on sunglasses and optical frames without re-calibration. As a result, the service offers a faster and simpler way of virtually trying on eyewear. This is of utmost importance for an online presence as most users click away when they need to wait for too long and it is equally important for the major search engine rankings.

Ludwig Heymbeeck, founder of PlanetVA, says: “Our commitment and focus on creating the ultimate mobile experience allows retailers both online and in-store to provide the most robust and efficient virtual try-on experience to date. We also plan to introduce additional features of vmPRO such as accurate optical measurements and integration with our style assistant app by the end of this year.”

“Unlike our competitors, we have not applied for patents yet as we want to keep our solution proprietary. It will allow us to be better positioned in order to adapt to the fast-changing world of technology and use the latest and best available algorithms for the end user”, Ludwig says.

PlanetVA’s North American solution slated to launch later this year will position independent optical retailers with a total retail solution aimed at creating new patient experiences. Our partnership with a network of eyecare professionals specializing in marketing, equipment, and e-commerce will give PlanetVA the necessary tools to deliver this exciting new ecosystem.
