Janna: Double Vision Resolved, -2.25 D To 20/25 (No Glasses)

The ‘weekly’ progress report compendium is still waiting on my desktop, growing daily in contributions.

Really not a moment of extra time these days, working on off-grid essentials before the monsoon season kicks in full force.  There’s basically going to be no building things outside for the next five or six months.  So whatever we may want to get done, it’s crunch time right now.

Anyway.  Even with all that, had to come in to share this 20/20 progress update with you:

Look at that chart, too.

And if you’re reading this thinking that Jake is some kind of utter and magnificent genius … you’d be right, of course.

(more like halfwit than genius, but let’s not be petty)

There are a million small details, nuances, tricks, and ways to reduce minus lens dependence that you’re only going to flush out given enough time and enough people participating.  I keep saying ‘over a decade’ but it’s more like a decade and a half, and the feedback and trial and error experiments of many thousands of fellow myopes.

That’s how we know when to use a ‘fixed gaze’ (geez Jake, with the silly terminology, just say staring at stuff) vs. active focus to address a lack of clarity in your vision.

I’m doing my best to not hog all of this knowledge, or put it all behind some high and pricey paywall.  If I die, which is well possible (nobody told me about the poisonous snakes and truly enormous scorpions in this jungle beforehand), I still want you to have all the tools to get back to 20/20.

Unless somebody figures out some major life extension treatment – then of course I’ll require statues of Jake in the park, and private island retreats in exchange for sharing all the ways.

There’s going to be no life extension for you Jake, you’re thinking.

And you’d be right.

So just go make all the 20/20 gains, and enjoy them while we all still can.

Cheers,

-Jake

Active Focus – Beginner Tips

Adding another one to the active focus link list, more words to help newbies find active focus.

Active focus is really the only part of the whole approach that has that intangible aspect that I can’t reliably explain the application of. Finding it is super easy for some, and a challenging journey for others. Since I don’t want you to get hung up on not being able to find active focus, I keep adding new perspective to hopefully help you out.

Here’s the most recent video explainer:

There you go.

Enjoy some active focus, keep making the 20/20 gains, and keep me posted on your progress!

Cheers,

-Jake

Why I Don’t Trust Optometrist Measurements

Video time!

Last day in Vietnam, high speed Internet abounds, and your favorite eye guru has been carrying around all the video gear for two months now. It’s clearly high time we got together for a little chat that’s not just a text blog Website entry thing.

So this time let’s cover why I don’t trust optometrist measurements. Or rather, how they approach the concept of “distance to blur” from the opposite end than recommended by your favorite Holiness, His Guru Von Jaken-shanti.

Short version: They measure for maximum possible diopters, while we measure for minimum / actually useful diopters.

Without getting into the defeatist mentality of permanently symptom treating a refractive state, let’s just look at the fallacy of maximum diopter exposure and all the things about lacking transparency and cooperation:

This is clearly what sage wisdom looks like.

Before you get into the video, yes I’m aware that some accuse the beard of rambling on too long. But this is how I like to involve you in the thought process and expand on ideas and keep things informal and non-scripted (and sometimes only vaguely to the point).

Hopefully this helps if you’re seeing improvements and yet the optometrist still keeps telling you that your eyes will forever suck. Learn to make the distinction between measurement ‘styles’ – and possibly explore local resources that give you transparency and a supportive approach.

Cheers,

-Jake

Maurice: Finally Found Distance Active Focus!

As always your favorite old homeless eye guru is guilty of not posting nearly enough guides and how-to’s and updates in the blog.

Guilty as charged, your honor.

You will find more frequently updated content in Le Meow (our private forum) and in our Facebook group.  A lot of times I’ll just screenshot an interesting e-mail and post it in either of those venues since it takes so much less time than writing a blog post here.  So if you’re either on Facebook or want to be off social media via our forum, those would be the places to check for frequent updates!

Anyway, here’s Maurice finally figuring out his distance active focus:

Winning.

Sometimes patience is a key ingredient of the process.

Especially active focus is a concept that’s somewhat intangible, and the initial “how to find it” experience is hard to specifically quantify.  I put together a whole page of active focus content to hopefully help you with that one.

Once you have active focus, and build a habit around it, you’re well on your way to making all the gains.

Be sure to share your progress!

Cheers,

-Jake

Improve Your Eyesight: The 4 Steps Starter Video

Ok, darlings.

Finally, only took about three years, I made you a bit of a summary video of all the endmyopia pieces involved in improving your eyesight.  As usually it includes more talking than a well scripted version would likely produce, but that’s just how we roll around here.

The video is now also added to the 7 day e-mail series and the ‘start here’ link – so that hopefully more newbies will be able to get a useful introduction before diving into the murky depths of all the guru waters.

Thanks to everyone who never stops annoying me with specific and actionable requests to improve the resources here.  Of course I’m always and forever pulled into too many directions and it does tend to take me a while to get things done.  Gentle persistence often helps to prioritize the endless to-do list, and ultimately my goal is to give you the best possible experience here.

So … here:

Even if “best possible experience” includes mah face.

Of course there’s not really a quick fix answer to something as complex as human eyesight, and how to affect it.

The intent of the video is to refine the initial experience with endmyopia a bit, summarize the bits and pieces, make it easier to make sense of everything else we talk about on the site with some context.  If you enjoy the video as always, thumbs up the bits, subscribe for future updates, and share with those less fortunate.

Cheers,

-Jake

High Myopia Measuring Tool: Nate Tweaks The Diopter Tape

Our darling Facebook group gets the occasional brilliant post.

Or maybe it’s quite a few, though it does get its fair share of repeating newbie questions.  Pro tip:  If you want to make it into the group, answer all the join questions – I’ve been getting quite strict about not letting riff-raff into the group, lately.

Here’s Nate’s high diopter tape tweak:

Psychology might matter.

To download your own (free) diopter ruler, courtesy of uncle Jake, or various awesome eye charts, also free and also courtesy of the beardly sage, check out the charts link.

There’s a bunch of other great stuff in the group, like Sean’s mountain view for active focus, or Benal’s improvement video going from a -7.00 to -4.75 in two months.

Stop by, say hi, share your 20/20 gains with us!

Cheers,

-Jake
