What brands sell well at your optical that you would recommend?

Frame adjustment advice

Gently lift the frame while looking at the bridge. Does one pad noticeably press into the affected side?

If so, it is probably a pressure issue where the temple pressing that side of their head is too tight and needs to be loosened; or the opposite temples adjustment behind their ear is too tight and pulling the pad into their nose too much.

Keep repeating adjustments until you can lift the frame with no pad favoring either side of their nose.

Once the pads are equallized and if it’s still sensitive they’ll sometimes need to wear another pair for a couple of days to let the pressure points sensitivity go away.

I’ve also played with the pads by flipping them upside down so to speak or changing them to another material and/or adjusting them away from their current position, but this is risky as the last thing you want is a broken pad arm.

Thelios Eyewear

Thelios was originally a partnership between Marcolin and LVMH (Louis Vuitton). I believe LVMH bought out Marcolin and completely controls manufacturing of it’s own eyewear brands now (Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Loewe Stella McCartney Kenzo, and Fred)

Personally, I’ve seen Celine and Fendi. Both were very well made.

Eyefinity and HIPPA

Has anyone else run into a problem when using eyefinity to submit VSP claims where you click on the order and it pulls up an order for another office. This has happened several times to me I usually ignore it and reload. It has happened enough though that i printed an order for another office as proof. I have notified my VSP person but I wanted evidence.

Eyeball metrics stats

I have a doc specializing in pediatrics, and I’m playing catch up. Plenty of high power and MF scripts for pint-sized patients. I’m hoping some of you brilliant folks can point me in the direction of any statistical surveys of eyeball metrics (particularly axial length/center of rotation, etc.) that may be out there. If there’s any literature on how reliably those vary by degree of refractive error, that’d be awesome and very appreciated as well.

Thank you in advance!

Different color A/R

Our lab has been constantly inconsistent one constant is the difference in A/R. They range from green, blue, and some purple. Some look really great some do not. I am to the point were I can never remake a single lens with A/R because the odd are the A/R wont match. I have never worked in a lab before so I was hope someone with experience can help me with why this is happening. One of my suspicions is that they are outsourcing to a different lab because they are having staffing issues but I cannot confirm that. The lab we use uses Crizal or so they tell us.

I am advocating that we change labs but that is all I can do.

I’m divorcing Hilco.

Hilco is a higher cost option than the other optical suppliers I’ve used. Other options include Western Optical. Amcon, Stormin’ Normin.

The one thing that I think is worth the extra cost from Hilco is the Ergo Pro hand tools. Everything else from screws, nose pads, etc is identical or nearly identical for cheaper everywhere else.

I’ve ordered from all the above.

Good read

Thanks for that. Pretty good evidence that the most effective way to combat blue light problems (real or perceived) are sunglasses outdoors. The chart showing the blue light intensity comparison is very telling.

One a seperate note, I’ve met one of the authors. Berangere is extremely nice, we met doing CEs together a few years back.

New Member, Need Help on DBL

Hello, everyone I have been an optician for over 10 years, and I am having the most difficult time to the point where I need to ask some of you on here. I hate not knowing the why behind things, so I apologize if this question is basic or whatever. But, I have a DVX frame that states that the DBL is a 13mm imprinted on it. The lab that did the lenses made them saying the DBL was a 12.44, our tracer will tell me that it is a 12.9 and so on and so on, all around the 12-13 range. Now, my confusion is coming from me actually measuring the DBL, looking at it, Im getting a 16-17 range. Which, as you can imagine, is throwing my patient completely off. Can someone PLEASE explain, what is going on with this frame? The model is the DVX Next… I want to make her PD smaller now, to compensate for this 4(ish)mm difference, but if there is something that I am not seeing when measuring this DBL, that would be good to know as well… Unless it’s me not compensating for the bevel for it being a safety frame… Idk…. Thanks guys, hope everyone is doing good and pleasure to meet everyone.
