Hoya progressives ID Myself, Lifestyle 3urban vs ID lifestyle V+

feedback: note happy, same issue, something wrong with the construction of the lenses

Any ideas on how to address this issue with the optometrist without hurting his feelings. Also I don’t really believe moving from x11 to x14 Corridor is responsible for such significant discomfort?

Double vision in distance on new PAL – troubleshoot help needed

Hi there,
Just looking for a bit of advice before remaking lenses.

We have an Old PX that is experiencing double vision (horizontal) after a few min of wear when looking at the TV or distance.
She has tried for 2 weeks already.
We have dotted up and double checked the RX , PD and fitting heights.
Background info:
She is 59 years old
New Lenses: Zeiss Smartlife Progressive Plus 1.67 into shell frame (came back as standard corridor, although we ordered medium – optom said to let her try first) Measured and triple checked again with Digital measuring device (Visufit)
Latest RX (verified in room as better by PX by prescribing Optom)
R: -9.00
L: -10.00
Add: +2.00
Uneven heights: R: 22.5 : 24
Mono Pd’s: R:31 L: 27

Her old ones don’t give her double vision and she never experienced before with any PAL’s
Old lenses from 2015: OSA/Kodak Unique 1.67 into a shell frame
R: -9.00/-1.25 x 180
L: -10.50
Add: +2.50
Even Heights: 17
PD: R: 29 L:29

All her previous PALS’s from the past had the same PD and even fitting heights.

Her double vision is confirmed as “side by side” horizontal in nature.

At first i thought maybe Zeiss sending the wrong “longer corridor” might be affecting the vision a bit.
But she only complained of the double vision when doing distance based things like TV or looking far. Always happens after 3-6 min or so.

The prescribing Optom is suggesting to remake 1. Shorter corridor 2. even up the PD and heights to mimic how she had lenses in the past

is that a good idea?

Just a bit stumped by this one as with newer technology lenses like these, usually it is better to be more spot on accurate not like the old conventional PALS which you could play around with a bit.

Sorry for the essay.. Any help would much appreciated.

Thank you.

PD Adjustment for Intermediate/Reading Progressive Lens ?

Hi Guys,
I’m seeing conflicting PD for this type of lens. It is based on the manufacturer?
For a regular Distance/Reading PAL the Distance PD is used – standard. For the Intermediate/Reading PAL I see some say to use the Distance PD while others say to use the Intermediate PD. What is the optically correct answer?

PS – I know if we’re making a Single Vision Intermediate (Computer) lens we usually reduce the Distance PD by 1.5mm. Is it the same for an Intermediate/Reading PAL?

PAL with virtually no markings?

We had a patient in who has the strangest lens, and we’re all stumped what it could be. There is an add of SOME sort in there, which I read at ~ +1.25. But the jump/distortion in that zone is super pronounced and dramatic compared to my co-worker’s 2.something add progressive. The only marking on the lens is an X (and just a plain X, not like a stylized or fancy font or anything) set low and temporally; there’s no other symbols, text, or markings anywhere in the lens.

Current theories: I thought possibly a blended bifocal, but there’s no bump on the lens from what I can tell. Maybe a DAL? I don’t know how prevalent those are at the moment, though. I think there’s a digital BF or something? I see it from time to time on the dropdown menu for like Eyemed, but I’ve never actually seen one in person, so I don’t know what that one looks like and whether it has a line or not.

Anyone got any insight that may shed some light on this?

What are progressive lenses?

PALs are a type of multifocal lens specifically for people who need corrective lenses to see distant and close up objects. To put it plainly, these lenses allow you to see clearly at multiple distances without a bifocal line.please share more details about this

Polarization of lenses

Hey All,
Had a question about the polarization of progressive lenses,
i need to perform lamination with polarizing film on some lenses so coating is not an option due to other issues,
how could this be implented in a small production unit without having air bubbles as result?
Or the use of hot lamination or a chemical coating?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

X Series “Tiers”

Long time reader, first time poster (be gentle!)

Can someone please explain the difference between the X Design and the X Fit? Is it only POW measurements?

If I order the fit and don’t supply the POW measurements, does the lab provide me with the Design OR do they give me the Fit with default POW measurements?

Thank you.
